The Best Dogs for Travel

You want to go on a trip or vacation, but hesitate to leave your dog behind. You travel a lot for business, and wish you had a furry companion to join you. We feel you PetParents! Some dogs are simply better travelers than others: it could be due to their size, their personalities, or something else. Have you ever wondered what the best dogs for travel are?

1. Maltese


Their small size is a huge win for the Maltese in the travel department. These tiny pups can fly in the cabin with their owner, and happily stow-away for a road trip too. Maltese are known for their strong bond with their owners, and are happiest in their company- an ideal travel companion for sure!

2. Shih Tzu


The Shih Tzu is a great dog for first time dog owners because of its low-key attitude and desire to please. These same qualities will make it an excellent travel companion.  The Shih Tzu is a small, compact dog who can travel in the cabin of an airplane with their owners quite easily.

The Miniature Schnauzer is a dapper looking travel companion. They do need a moderate amount of exercise, but are generally content if their owners are nearby. Very adaptable, they can adjust easily to the travel lifestyle and all the adventures it has to offer.

Poodles have a strong desire to please their owners, and this trait is not lost in the miniature poodle. Smart, athletic, and agile, the poodle is a great companion for people of any age. Poodles are comics who love to make you laugh and can help ease the stress of travel.

5. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel


The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has been popular with royalty for thousands of years now. It’s recently become one of the most popular breeds in the US. A toy breed, the Cavalier is easy to transport, and loves to be with their owners. Very friendly and outgoing, travel will not stress out this doggie diva one bit!
