11,000 Year Cancer Found in Dogs

Research in the Journal of Science has been documenting this interesting case. How has it survived so long? The cancer does not just die out with its host but ‘jumps onto’ other dogs to find a new host, lead researcher Dr. Elizabeth Murchison. It was kept mildly isolated but researchers do think that the cancer could have spread as dogs boarded ships with their owners, spreading the disease to other dogs the encountered in new lands.
