1. The Greyhound 

These dogs have known to be couch potatoes, but greyhounds are some of the fastest dogs around. When it comes to chasing prey, like a hare, they can reach speeds up to 45 mph. This dog will love to go on the occasional run with you, but they will also love to hang with you on the couch.

2. Saluki 

The Saluki has been clocked in the Guinness Book of Word Records for reaching up to 43mph. This dog is made for long distance running, and for distances over a mile this dog is faster than the Greyhound. Saluki’s are also one of the oldest dog breeds, which date back all the way to 7000 B.C. Egypt.

3. Whippet 

Whippets used to be known as ‘The poor mans racing dog.’ But these fast little guys, are not joke. Whippets have been known to match or beat a Greyhounds speed. They are also loving dogs and make great family pets.

4. Border Collie 

Border Collies are quick dogs, and can reach some amazing speeds. These dogs were originally bred and trained to be herding dogs, specifically for sheep, in England. They make incredible herding dogs, and have won numerous herding and sport competitions. Border Collies have been known to reach quick speeds, as chasing away predators and keeping up with the herd requires it.

5. Siberian Husky 

The Siberian Husky is the marathon runner of all dogs. They were originally bred and trained to bring supplies to remote villages in the far northern remote areas. However now, they are primarily used to compete in dog sled competitions. This breed has been clocked at 28 mph, but note that they can pull a sled at 10mph for very long distances.

6. Jack Russell Terrier 

Jack Russell Terrier’s can reach amazing speeds up to 25 mph! They may be small, but their speed is no joke. These dogs were originally bred to be fox hunters, making them incredibly quick.
